Edit a list in Studio

Change a module's list directly in Studio: add, move, rename and size columns, sort and group, show totals, let each person switch a column, mark rows by condition, and edit custom module values in place.

In Studio, a module's list is edited on the real list, the same way forms are. Open the module in Studio and choose its list. Every change you make is part of the same change set as the rest of the module: it shows in the review with a line for each change, you apply it with Apply, and Undo takes it back.

You can also ask the Studio agent in plain words, for example "show the amount on the list", "sort by due date, newest first", or "grey out the closed rows".

Change a column

Click a column header to open its properties. From the keyboard, focus the header and press Enter. The properties open in a popover beside the column:

SettingWhat it does
LabelThe field's name everywhere in this module, the forms included
Width in pixelsFrom 60 to 640. Leave it on Auto to let the column share the row with the others
The list opens sorted by itNo, A to Z (smallest first), or Z to A (largest first)
Group the list by itThe list opens grouped by this field
Under the listNothing, the total, the average, or how many rows have a value
Each person can switch itNo, it always shows; Yes, shown at first; or Yes, hidden at first
Take off the listRemoves the column. A list keeps at least one column

Totals are worked out from the rows each person can see. A list that loads one page at a time says the figure is for that page.

When a person may switch a column, they do it from the list's Columns menu, and their choice is saved for them only.

Move and add columns

Drag a column header to move it. From the keyboard, focus the header and press Alt with the left or right arrow key; a screen reader hears the column's new place.

Add column above the list shows the module's fields that the list does not show yet, with a search. The new column goes at the end of the list.

Some built in lists show a fixed set of columns. There, Studio can choose the columns and their order and rename them. A few modules draw their own list rather than the shared list table; those take no widths, totals or optional columns.

Mark rows

Row colors marks rows by their values, with a small status dot (Success, Warning or Danger) or a greyed row. Each rule reads Rows where a field matches a condition, and says what the mark means; screen readers read that text and it shows on hover. The first rule that matches a row wins. A list takes up to eight rules.

Edit values in place

On a custom module you built, Edit values in place lets people change a value directly in the list. The record's own rules still apply:

  • A value is refused if someone else changed the record after the list was loaded, so no change is silently overwritten. Reload and try again.
  • A field hidden by a condition, or one that can be set only when the record is created, cannot be edited in place by people below Manager.
  • Required fields, field conditions and the module's other checks run exactly as they do on the record page.

On a board, moving a card changes only the field the board's columns come from.
